Fiscal Agent

HFF Fiscal Agent

If your organization needs a fiscal agent, Support Kansas City can help!

Support Kansas City has an agreement with the Health Forward Foundation to serve as a fiscal agent for their grantees. The Foundation covers the cost of the services and refers applicants to Support Kansas City once they have a pending grant award. Support Kansas City will review your financial processes and record keeping for grant expenditures and indicate to the Foundation our agreement to serve as your fiscal agent for the Foundation’s grant.

If you would like more information on using a fiscal agent, please confirm with the Health Forward Foundation that they will require your organization to use a fiscal agent and follow their grant procedures. If you need additional information about Support Kansas City please contact Blake Petersen or Jenne Vanderbout at 913-831-4752 or email us at

A fiscal agent or fiscal sponsor is an organization that receives, disburses and accounts for grant funds on behalf of another organization. Fiscal agents assume the accounting and financial reporting responsibility for grant funds. As such, they receive grant payments on behalf of, and disburse funds to the grantee, and they record and document grant-related transactions according to appropriate accounting principles.

If the Health Forward Foundation awards a grant to an organization that meets either condition below, the applicant organization must receive its grant funding through a fiscal agent/sponsor:

  • if the grantee organization is not IRS-designated as a 501(c)(1), 501(c)(3), 501(c)(6) or 501(c)(9) organization, or
  • if the grantee organization’s financial statements are not audited.

A fiscal agent must be a nonprofit organization, must be designated as one of the types shown above, and must have annual financial audits.
